Another OA Publisher Launches with 96 New Journals

96 journals ready and waiting.

I have another large “fleet launch” of journals to report: Academia Research, based somewhere.

The publisher launched recently with 96 brand new scholarly journals, most of them broadly focused. This publisher uses the gold open-access model and bills authors upon acceptance of a manuscript. It says,

Fees and Charges: A handling fee of $550 will be billed to the authors for each manuscript published.

Other than this, there’s not much to say about this publisher. It has a minimalist website that provides little of the information that scholarly publishers conventionally provide.

Some of its journals have only a couple editorial board members, yet they are accepting manuscript submissions, which is done through email.

The publisher brags about its quick review process, saying, on its “Frequently Ask [sic] Questions” page,

The average review cycle is around 15 working days.

Their excellent graphics just make me want to submit a paper immediately

On its “About Us” page, most of which is lifted from other publishers without attribution, the publisher states,

… if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatic transfer of the copyright to the publisher.

So, if you publish here, you will be paying the publisher and also surrendering your copyright to him. Sounds like a rotten deal to me.

I strongly recommend against submitting scholarly papers to all 96 journals published by Academia Research.
