A Spammer and a Liar: Global Journals Inc.

A completely inept scholarly publisher.

If you haven’t already, you may soon receive an annoying spam email from an Indian publisher called Global Journals Inc. (US). This publisher misrepresents its real headquarters location in its name and web address. It also provides much additional false and misleading information, all with the aim of getting you to submit your paper and pay the hefty author fee.

Global Journals Inc. publishes seven broad-scoped journals, including the ineptly titled Global Journal of Researches in Engineering. It claims to be based in the U.S. and even uses “US” in its name, but it’s really based in India.

The journals’ author fees range from $300 to $420, and given the their low quality, this is a complete rip off. Indeed, in addition to paying these fees, authors must agree “to transfer [their] research’s copyright to Global Journals Inc. (US).”

The publisher has a page aimed at helping its authors improve their writing skills called “How to Write Good Paper [sic].”

They promise “Period of Processing : Fifteen Days,” and I assume this means your paper will be accepted within two weeks at the longest. However, their spam email says, “The process of publication is expected to be completed within three to five weeks.

The spam email is full of nonsense as well. For example, it claims:

Global Journals Inc. (US) is well known – the leading and fastest growing research publishing organization in the world.

This statement is completely false.

Their spam emails pander to authors, praising an earlier paper and inviting another, e.g.,  “I came across your research paper … and feel that your research is having a very good impact.”

When you receive your copy of the spam email from Global Journals Inc. (US), I recommend that you delete it.
